2024 Week 9 NFL Fantasy Injury Preview

Puka Nacua: Knee

Listen, at this point your guess is as good as mine. In Week 1 he played through what we assume is this persistent PCL sprain. That didn’t end well. Then he came off IR and had over 100 yards receiving. Now he “banged” the knee again in practice. Bottom line: he’s volatile due to reinjury risk. Personally, if I’m in a league in which I just need points to keep my lead in the standings, I’m not going with Puka. I’d rather have somebody like Josh Downs. However if you’re running thin, slotting him in if active is likely the move since the Seahawks’ passing defense has been bottom 10 in EPA.

Projected Return: Week 9

Jordan Love: Groin

Love has been limited in practice. Given his track record just in 2024, its likely the Packers will put him out there but he is highly volatile due to re-injury. He’s not likely to run as much as usual (though he’s not exactly Mike Vick as it is) but his passing ceiling remains the same.

Projected Return: Week 9

Tyrone Tracy: Concussion

Tracy looks to clear protocol in time and will be slightly more volatile due to re-injury risk.

Projected Return: Week 9/TBD

Drake Maye: Concussion

Maye is has been limited in practice and looks like he should clear protocol. In theory. However it's important to remember the Patriots held Maye out in the first half of this season presumably to protect him. So keep an eye out on the inactives on Sunday even if he clears.

Projected Return: Week 10/TBD

Brian Thomas Jr.: Chest

Remember that 66% of WRs miss 0 games, and 18% miss 1 game? Well, BTJ has been limited in practice this week and will look to play. Throw him out there since all he needs is one big play but keep in mind that reinjury risk is very real so avoid him in cash games.

Projected Return: Week 9

Travis Etienne: Hamstring

ETN has been limited all week in practice. The strange thing is that the Jags have listed him that way since he’s been injured. Even though his own comments seem tepid, only 20% of RB hamstring injuries extend beyond 2+ weeks. So if he returns this week, he’ll likely see ~80% of a full workload but re-injury is on the table. He’s a volatile play.

Projected Return: Week 9

TJ Hockenson: ACL

Hock is unlikely to see a full allotment of snaps for the next month or so. He’s not startable in most formats for that reason. However, you’ll likely see flashes of the star TE that remind you of who he is. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60% of snaps is likely.
